Kamakura City Kawakita Film Museum

Filmmakers visiting the Kawakita Residence in Kamakura

Alain Delon visited the Kawakita residence

I attended the special exhibition for the 15th anniversary of the Kawakita Film Museum, titled "Filmmakers Who Visited the Kawakita Residence in Kamakura."

This special exhibition will run from August 2, 2025 to November 24, 2025.

Of all the places to relax in Kamakura, the Kawakita Film Museum is my favorite.

The handsome man in the photo is Alain Delon.
Holding a Bangasa (Japanese umbrella) makes him look good and familiar.

This film museum is located on the site of what was once Mr. Kawakita's villa, so the villa itself is attached to the museum.

Mr. and Mrs. Kawakita worked together to introduce foreign films to Japan and Japanese films to foreign countries. As such individuals, their villa here in Kamakura served as a gathering place for many filmmakers.

Alain Delon, pictured above, is one of the people who have visited the Kawakita Residence. Other visitors include director Bernardo Bertolucci, director Wim Wenders, who admires director Yasujiro Ozu, Kinuyo Tanaka, Hidemi Kon, Shigehiko Hasumi, and Chishu Ryu, among many other filmmakers and celebrities.

Ms. Kashiko Kawakita

I have never met Ms. Kashiko Kawakita, of course, but from the photos, she seems like a kind and gentle lady.

There was a photo of Ms. Kashiko with Ryuichi Sakamoto, who was young at the time, with his head on her shoulder. The two of them were rubbing cheeks against each other. I love the embarrassed, shy look on Ms. Kashiko's face. I remember this photo being in not only this special exhibition but also on permanent display.
